Логично будет предположить, что не обошли стороной творчество Лавкрафта и музыканты. Тем более, что на 70-90 года двадцатого столетия пришелся пик мрачных направлений в музыке. Hard-rock, вслед за ним heavy metal, и дальше - целый сонм стилей и направлений, которые ответвились от первых двух. Именно для такой музыки как нельзя более и подходили мрачные тексты Лавкрафта. Надо сказать, что и сами музыканты писали вполне достойные вещи, взять хотя бы Black Sabbath или King Diamond с его концептуальными альбомами-историями. Но творчество Лавкрафта любили многие и не отразить его в своей музыке не могли.

В данном обзоре присутствует много вещей разных групп. В некоторых случаях нельзя доподлинно сказать, сочинена песня по лавкравтовским мотивам или просто совпало название. В большинстве случаев судить можно только по названию альбома или песни, или по упоминанию имени Лавкрафта на буклете альбома.
